I took the slats off to try to get more cross country speed and I was amazed with the difference, 12% more speed. There was no change in take-off or landings. Most of the flying I do is long distance and using the standard airfields. How can I get an approval to fly the aircraft without slats ?? For me to be legal here in New Zealand, I need an approval from the aircraft designer. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks Gary, I shall do what you are suggesting and hopefully get it all sorted, because I like flying this aircraft.

Yestreday I checked my flywheel bolts (jabiru 2200, 80hp) and replaced the battery to get ready for winter. My vhf is very noisey so I am trying to locate the cause.

I think the airplane you are looking for is the Savannah VG.  I own a Zenith 701, but am not happy with its performance and plan to start building the Savannah VG soon.  I will be using the Rotax 912S from my Zenith 701 in the Savannah, and selling the 701 airframe.  The performance difference is amazing.  Too bad Zenith hasn't recognized the improvements ICP made on the 701/750 design and incorporated them in their own aircraft.

Thanks Doug. Your pictures look great, very tidy ch701. I shall google Savannah VG and see what it does. I am still going to email Zenith and ask them if I can remove slats and fly without destroying the aircraft. What is ICP ??

hello shafid

what i had read and learn is that if i modified the plane from its originals plans the FAA could reject the airworthiness certificate unless i get an writen approval from the manufaturer so i think i will have to stick with the wing slats

Hi Shafid

I flew mine for the first few months with no slats, not sure about the legal aspects, but be wary of your stall characteristics.Mine became very violent. If you do want to sell ,let me know. I might have a keen buyer
