Just purchased a new Grand Rapids EIS Model 4000 for a Rotax 912S for my 701.

When I orderd it they asked what type of oil sender was in my Rotax. As I havent bought my motor yet, I called Rotax and they told me the Honeywell sender comes standard.

After a 3 month wait I recieved the unit and it came with a VDO oil sending unit. When I called the suplier where I bought it they told me the EIS will not support the Honeywell sending unit, and the reason they asked which unit came with the engine is so if its not a VDO they will include it with the order.

It seems crazy to remove the more expensive unit and replace it.

Does this sound right?

Any input would be great.

Thanks

Rodney, you may want to contact Bob McDonald on this site. Bob has experience with this VDO unit for the rotax.

Andre

Not crazy... my Honeywell packed it in after 3 months... the replacement did not last any better. Installed the $40 VDO sender and no problems. Honeywell sender is $400. Install the VDO unit its better built and more reliable. Price is seldom an indicator or quality.
Thanks, just wanted to make sure. I will keep the unit and change out the Honeywell when I get closer and buy my engine.
