Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Hi everyone!
I have a 601 XLB and I have installed new GRT Sport EX EFIS. I installed the magnetometer with heavy velcro, about 4 ft behind the passenger seat on the side of the fuselage above where the "large access" bottom panel is located. I know there are the elevator cables there, but they are at least 18 inches from the magnetometer and I can't get it to calculate! I spoke with GRT support and they said there is magnetic interference taking place. I used my phone with compass to try and see any magnetic field and it didn't move much. I know ideally, GRT recommends out on the wing, but that wouldn't be possible. ANY thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

Hi Steve,
I had success mounting the mag. on the second rib in the leading edge on my 650. There is nothing in that location to interfere with calibration. It was easy enough to fish the wire leads though the ribs and side wall temporarily to see if the calibration would work afterwards i attached it with 3m scochweld double face tape.
Best of luck to you.
Phil
Thanks Phil, That's where I'm looking to place it! I moved it from the back and just set it out there on the wing and it picked up the correct heading!
