Hi,
I am about to work on my750 lift struts and was wondering if there is an acknowledged way of corrosion protecting the interior of the struts

Hi Thomas,
Afraid we don’t have many choices when it comes to ferrous metals. According to AC 43-4B other than painting all we can do is keep the water drain openings free and clear and clean any corrosion we find. In para 4.13.5 it states clean it, prime it, paint it as the only acceptable surface pre-treatment. Other metals and alloys have more prevention options. When I built mine I coated the inside with clean gear oil but that won’t last forever. Looking back I wish I had taken the time to create something akin to a small bore brush and used it to coat the inside of my lift struts with primer and paint. So now my only practical recourse is to just replace them at some future date. Thankfully borescope cameras are getting smaller and better so until then I can look inside for corrosion during my 12 month inspection without removing them.
Thank you both for your informative and prompt reply to my post, I now know the options, I just remembered that I had used a two part product called jouton used to corrosion proof external aluminium structures in the building trade the product sprayed from an ordinary spray gun, thinking about sealing one end of each tube mixing a suitable amount of of the product pouring it into the struts sealing the other ends and sloshing the material about inside the strut then removing the end caps and pouring out the excess leaving the struts open for the material to air dry
Best Regards
