Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
I attempted to calibrate my MGL SP-6 the other day and couldn't get it done. I have it installed in my Zenith 750 STOL in the fuselage aft of the large access panel, similar to John Austin's installation https://zenith.aero/forum/topics/mgl-sp-6-magnetometer.
It seemed to take a while for it to start counting up the samples, and I was never able to get a good solution.
Later, it has occurred to me that I was flying at about 1500 AGL near (south of) a large solar farm, and I wonder if that would have an effect on the magnetic field? I know there may be other things going on, but I think I will find another location for my next attempt before I try to move the SP-6.
Has anyone had any experience or knowledge about how a solar farm might impact a magnetometer calibration?

Magnetic fields drop off so quickly with distance that I doubt the solar farm would make any difference.
