OK Guys and Gals,

 

Just to put in my thinking on two items that were brought up on the light weight interior:

 

About crushability and energy concerns.  I think that the structure of the seat pan will probably deflect or give way so by butt is hanging out the bottom of the plane LOL. Seriously, I don't have a lot (inch or so) room to add the type of foams discussed due to my sitting height - even when I was skinny it almost DQ'd me from USAF Pilot Training - thus the set up I ultimately have.  BTW with the seat set up as shown and described (leather lumbar support over camping mat egg carton foam and a thin layer of closed cell camping mat) I flew for and hour and was pleasantly supprised with the comfort - don't mind the leather smell one bit.

 

About Fire safety.  The HVAC insulation is certified to some building standard and does not support flame with a torch test also it gave off very little fume and smoke.  The two foams seem to be resistant to fire in the same way as they don't support flame with heat source removed.  Additionally the carpet and support material seem to be OK with just the plastic corregated material a little suspect but when you sandwich them together (carpet/corregated material and aluminum floor) it seems to be acceptable.

 

I appreciate the comments and concerns. Anyway those are my thoughts and why I am where I am in the design

I am glad you checked out your stuff for fire resistance, Phil. I share your problem with sitting height. I, too, was close to being thrown out of AF pilot training for that. I am convinced, to this day, that I would have lost my kneecaps if I ejected out of the T-37. I did not share my concerns with the powers that be, because if I was right, I would have been thrown out. When they measured me, on my sign in physical, they said I was ok, but I am not so sure. Good thing I never had to find out.

 

I am using Oregon Aero universal soft seat pilot cushions. I am presently flying a friend's 601XLB and the one inch bottom cushion gives me lots of headroom. My friend bought Oregon Aero's custom cushions for the plane and they are wonderful, but they make me sit too high.
