Greetings!

I'm building a Cruzer 750 and it looks like I'm going to need an emergency locator transmitter (ELT).

With ADS-B, I'm not sure how valuable these are, but I need to follow the rules.

Where is a good place to get a new ELT? I'll need all the dodads (antenna, cables, panel switch, mounting base)

The bummer is that I'll probably have a dead battery before I fly!

I wonder if I can just buy the antenna, mounting base, and panel switch and get the ELT later.

Thoughts?

For an ELT The ACK E-04 at $875 is the cheapest option I could find.  It comes as a complete kit at this price.  Install was pretty easy in the hole under the airplane with wiring up to the control head on the panel.  I bought mine during the last year of the build and still had 4 years of battery left when I finished.

For ADS-B / Transponder take a good look at uAvionix.  I think they still have the cheapest options.  If you skip controlled airspace, you won't need it.  I wanted to fly into some class C airports and through a Mode C veil so I had to add it.  It was the most expensive part of my entire Avionics package.

I bought an Airtex 345 several months ago despite the fact that i am years from flying with it.  I wanted to get the mounting and wiring done while I still had the fuselage mostly open.  Since most of the battery life was going to go to waste while I'm building, I sold the battery and will buy a new one when the time comes.  I think I gave the buyer a 20% discount off the price of a new one.

I'll let you confirm this, but I belive you are required to have an ELT regardless of wether or not you have ADS-B out.

Unless it's a single seat aircraft, an ELT is required.
