Has anyone used the "manual style" nicopress swaging tool from ACS to make their cables? When I use the slot for 1/8" cable, the compression points look too wide. From drawings and pictures, there seems to be a much more pronounced ridge in between compression points. This tool clamps down using bolts to press the jaws. The fitting I made seems absolutely tight and well-crimped, but it doesn't look like the drawings or other pictures I have seen...
Thanks

Looks pretty good to me.
Use a pair of calipers to check the diameter of the finished crimp to ensure it matches the specs. (should be on the instruction paper that came with the tool)
I'm feeling really good now... yeah, baby!!!
Looks good to me Brian. I assume the order you crimped it was center, thimble end, cable end like AC 43.13 says. :)
Yep... I did the right order... I guess I was expecting a much more pronounced "squish area" that resembled the drawings. Certainly seems rock-solid to me... at least as strong as the cable itself.
Just be sure to use a drilled bolt, castle nut and cotter pin.
Brian
Looks good.
A tip for the future... if you leave the steel cable bare extended about 1/4" from the heat shrink tubing end you can monitor this "extended" length for any movement / slippage visually with reference to the heat shrink tubing end.
My 2 cents
Bob
Heat shrink tubing very bad idea, traps moisture and prevents you from seeing any rust forming, cable will just separate one day......
I use slighty "oversize" clear heat shrink over the wire and the nicopress sleeve. It keeps the wire ends from biting back, but it doesn't trap moisture. And since it's clear, you can detect corrosion too.
