I am close to pulling the trigger on buying a 2008 AMD Zodiac 601 XLi with 50 hours on airframe and engine (O-200). The plane was in the Midwest from 2008 to 2020 and has been in Florida since 2020. The last time is flew was when it was moved to Florida. Nice plane but I am concerned about possible corrosion. Compression is in the high 70s.
Any advice on checking for corrosion? Borescope the cylinders, etc? Any other words of wisdom?

fly it, change oil, fly some more!!! insure fuel is fresh
id be worried about lifters but with 50 hrs its practically new!. I once bought cessna 150 that had not flown for 4 years or so, found lots of rust in gascolator ( cessna tank problems) and stuff in carb screen
doesn't it have dynon ems? lotsa info thereto calm ones nerves as to just oil pressure and temp
is the b upgrade done? having been factory-built aids in instructional value
Whether, SLSA or ELSA unless it’s an amphibious max weight is 1320 lbs. the plane you’re looking at has an empty weight of 918 lbs. I looked at the same 601 and I weigh 170 lbs. at full fuel it did not leave a lot for passenger it’s why I passed on it.
I would do a oil analysis. Run the motor for a while and then test it. Tells a lot.
If an engine has been sitting a long time, continental once suggested that before even moving the prop, completely fill the crankcase with oil (used oil will do), then drain it out, put in the correct amount of new oil, make sure all the bottom plugs are oil free then start it. That puts a film of oil on all the parts on which the old oil film has drained off such as the cam and lifters and gears.
