Make sure it’s easily removable so you can add and subtract aluminum tape over the radiator fins :)
I made one for my 701, it sits on a shelf in the hangar. I found during flight test that if I installed it, the engine would not reach the Rotax recommended operating temperature. I fly without it and still need a strip of tape over the oil cooler, even in the Summer.
Thanks! It is attached with nut plates for easy removal. The IO-375 has a vernatherm, so low operating temps should bypass the oil cooler. The 801 is going on amphibs, so I anticipate the extra cooling capacity will come in handy. It will add some cooling drag, but I think the trade off is wise.... time will tell.
