I'm working with Aerotronics in Billings, MT, to do my panel. They are at the point where they need a color for the panel and I'm stumped because I haven't picked a color for the plane yet! I had a color, but it got vetoed at OSH by the CFO of the house!
What have others done with panel colors? I'm putting in a 10" Dynon and will be using my Garmin 396 and a Garmin com radio.

I'd pick a neutral color: grey, light grey, black, tan ... something like that. It isn't as distracting, and if you ever want to repaint the exterior a different color, the panel is still a fair match.
I used a very light tan, but that's mostly because I got tired of 40 years of black panels!
Jim,
I am leaning toward a grey. Trying to find a sample to send to Aerotronics.

Jim,
I'm ahead of you. This way I get an excuse to fly to Montana if I scratch something!!!!

I painted mine a basic tan, and I like it still after 70+ hours.

Randy,
Thanks for the picture. How long have you been flying your 701? The view out the window is great. I lived in Denver for a year, never got to fly out there, but did pass my private pilot test at the Stapleton FSS in 1970!

My first flight was last November 19th. The picture I attached was taken over Ruby Canyon of the Colorado river, just south of Mack, CO. The scenery here is spectacular, and the 701 is ideal for the backcountry flying that is so accessible from here. You ought to come out some time.
Randy
Hi Ed,
The panel should be a neutral colour that doesn't distract your eyes from the instruments. Boeing or Airbus flat grey would be ideal. The Airbus grey is available in aerosol cans, I'm not sure if the Boeing one is available likewise. The Airbus grey is slightly lighter. You really don't want to notice the panel, just the instruments and decals.
Regards,
Shay.
Shay,
Thank you for two great ideas. I'm going on-line to see if I can get a color sample. I have two samples that are "Ford tractor grey" and where I live, I've seen and used a lot of them. I will compare them to your ideas. Who do you fly for?
