I have a Rotax 912 80hp with a Woodcomp propeller on my Zenair 601. Anyone now what the best proppitch is for that combination. My airfielt is 500ft over MSL 1000 meter runway and I would like to have the best pitch for speed but also be able to have a decent climb. The proppitch is now 17 degrees and thats max for that prop according to what I found here on internet. I havent tested to fly with it yet but when I tested static on ground I only reached 4600 rpm. Is it dangerous to try to lift with that low rpm? Will I be able to climb? It would be intresting to see my cruisespeed with that configuration though.

You should go to the rotax owners forum. Lots of prop info there. I have an 80 hp 912 on my 601 and I'm around 5300 on take off roll. 4600 seems way too low and only going to stress the motor by lugging it. Cruise you want 5200 to 5500 rpm. I would take a few degrees out of that prop. All the HP is made on the top end of the rpm scale. Rotax says max rpm for takeoff is 5800 rpm for 8 min or so.  That's my thought anyway.
