Hi all, I am looking at purchasing a semi completed plans built 601HD. I would like to hear from anyone who has one of these aircraft flying with a 100HP 912 or jabiru 6. I would prefer if the aircraft can maintain a 100 knot cruise, given the thick wing profile I would like to hear real world performance figures of owners.

Cheers Alex

An HD will not maintain 100 knots cruise except at wide open throttle with a 912.  At WOT you burn about 6.5 gal/hr.  My HDS will maintain 100 knots at 5K rpm burning about 4.5 gal/hr.  At WOT (5.5K rpm) it maintains 114 knots.  The HD is slower than the HDS due to the Hersey bar wing.

So is the 601 jd a smaller version of the Cherokee series of piper aircraft in essence?

Cheers Alex
