I need to replace my rudder cables on my 701. The cost of pre-made cables from Aircraft Spruce is minimal so I will have them make them. With that in mind how would you terminate them at the rudder?
AN115 shackle on the rudder and a thimble? That is what I have now and I know it works.
Fork end swagged to the cable? But I worry about the end of the rudder horn not being in line with the cable and causing the fork end to bind. but it would sure look nice and clean.
Swagged eye end and then 2 short aluminum plates and AN-3 bolts between the rudder and swagged eye. But then that may bind also.
What do you guys think?

If you went with the fork end, you could bend the end of the rudder horn to line up with the cable, put a twist in the end of the horn on each side so that the mounting spot is in line with the line of the cable as it approaches the horn. Just a thought, don't know for sure if it would work but it kinda makes sense. I agree that the fork end swaged onto the cable would make a nice clean looking installation.
I await answers from more experienced/wiser builders.
Alan,
From what I can see, the 601XL and 701 have a similar rudder connection. What our plans show is the adjustable turnbuckle out at the rudder connection. Kind of hard to see in the picture, but my cable ends in a thimble that goes around an eye end on the turnbuckle. The other end of the turnbuckle is a fork and that goes right to the rudder. No binding in 4 years of operation.
GOod luck,
Dave
