crashed my Czech built 701 amphib, the steel pipe coming out of the float that the spreader bar slides over rusted from the inside out this should be inspected yearly !! you can not see it until you pull the float off to look inside! my new zenith 1150s looks to have a thicker pipe never the less it will still rust!! hope to have new one flying by end of summer bob ill be calling ya !!

I've always worried about these steel tubes. I planned on running oil through the exposed ones. I wish all these tubes were easy to close off. Can you post pictures? Would be very informational to the rest of us. How long were you running it before it rusted through?
I bought the plane about 3 years ago it had around 350 hrs on it my new one I coated it an sprayed some closed cell foam in it haven't figured out how to put pitch.on her yet !!!!
I don't know where you are on the rebuild, but I had my pickup fittings zinc plated, inside and out, then zinc chromated. I don't think they will rust.
4130. With the zinc plating and zinc chromate, even on the inside, they will last longer than me.
