Thinking about selling my Cruzer.  It is just in phase 1, only 3 short flights.  Would it be better to fly the phase 1 flights before trying to sell?

The biggest problem with selling while still in Phase I is that the the aircraft cannot be flown outside the flight test area.  If the new owner resides in a different part of the country, he/she must either complete the flight testing within the original test area or get the Operating Limitation amended to where he/she lives.  In the latter case the aircraft must be disassembled and transported to the new test area.  If the distance is reasonably close, the original test area may be listed within the new area, but that would have to be approved by the local FSDO or DAR.  This has been done but it's pretty rare.

Legalities aside, putting your just- built aircraft up for sale after a few short flights may make a potential buyer wonder why. And no potential buyer may sit in your aircraft for a flight until Phase 1 is complete. You would create a most difficult and unfavorable selling situation.

I bought a 750 that was in phase 1. It wasn’t a big deal to get a new flight test area that included where the plane was hangared and where I intended to move it to. It was all in the same state though. It’s a great little plane!
