First off , if you have a need to get off short , true STOL , there is no substitute for slats , end of discussion , my question is ??has anyone changed ,for the better , the slat position from the stock position , [110 out on bottom 16 up on top and flush with the bottom of the wing ]??, I'm at the position now to install and am open to tested changes that don't decrease lift.

What are your gains/losses between position 1 and 6?

MY 701 was in stock position 1 when I bought it. The take off and landing distances were the same as the Skyranger and the Savanna S (no slats) of my friends.

With position 6, it's easier to benefit from the slats effect.

The take off distance is shorter (full flaps) and the 701 can fly at hight angle of attack and at lower airspeed. This allows the Zenair to land on shorter distance (full flaps).

I would now try with a lower flap position, if it's not so bad an idea...

Moreover with the flaps in position 1, I disliked to use flaps full.

With the flaps in position 6, full flaps are easy to fly.
