I am interested in making the struts on my 801 adjustable.  Other aircraft have adjustable struts particularly Piper.  Does anyone have any values on the tensile strength of the struts installed.  Has anyone done any kind of modification to their struts?  Does anyone know where there is hardware available for strut modification.  Wicks and Spruce both offer some Piper parts but nothing else that I can find.  Thanks

Out of curiosity,  what’s the goal?  Is this to allow dihedral adjustment?

I thought I replied to this a while ago.  This web site sometimes does not work as expected.  The reason is so that I can set the dihedral and and angle of attack on the wing.  I should be able to dial in the wings to fly perfectly level and straight.

Understood.  A couple of things to ponder - which I suspect you already have…..

1) The wing root skins are set after the dihedral, and would need a design adjustment to accommodate adjustment after the fact.  If you tried to fly first without installing root skins, I suspect the turbulence would upset the process…..  and possibly rudder authority.

2) depending on loading, passengers and fuel burn your lateral CG will change frequently, and will often be a little off.

If you have considered these and want to go that way,  keep us posted.  I’m not aware of another 801 builder who has undertaken this, maybe your on to something and everyone should know.  Or if not, we can still all learn.

If you would consider alternative solutions, several 801s are flying with roll trim (mine included), and it works very well.  I have a one fuel valve position per tank set up (no both), so my lateral CG moves all the time.  The roll trim keeps it flying “hands off”.  Happy to share how I did mine if it would be of interest.

I would be interested in your roll trim.  I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for your thoughts.
