Does anybody else feel underwhelmed by the performance numbers with io-360? The cruise speed is dismal for mosaic standards. Why add 60hp to gain 7 mph over the regular cruzer? Zenith had the opportunity to create a real cruiser and opted instead to keep stol capabilities. I waited 5 years for this design. Now it is a hard pass for me.

Not sure what you were expecting. It's pretty much exactly what I expected. The Super Cruzer compares to the Cruzer almost exactly as the Super Duty compares the 750 STOL.

It's exactly what I was expecting - a Cruzer with more useful load and a jump seat, just like the Super Duty STOL is a 750 STOL with more useful load and a jump seat.

Not at all. It's a 750 utility aircraft, not a Lancair. Speed isn't the priority, or the goal.

Jerry, have you looked in to the Sonex high wing? It might be closer to what you are looking for.

I have been looking heavily at building a Super Duty but since learning about and seeing the Super Cruzer at Airventure on Monday I have all but switched to the Super Cruzer. Still gathering info, but pretty confident that will be my choice.

Maybe some of this is a matter of perspective. I never really looked in depth at the Cruzer or STOL because they really didn't fit my mission, however the Super Duty did. The Super Cruzer fits my mission even better. From this perspective the gain in speed is rather large while still keeping some STOL capability, but not as extreme as the Super Duty.

My mission is not extreme back country flying like some others where gravel bars are the norm, nor is it to travel long distances at high speed. Having a stable, well handling aircraft with the ability to load it up with payload or a back seat passenger, use shorter non-paved runways, and conduct more regional fun flights is.

I'd like to throw my $0.02 in here, even though I have been gone from the community a while now.

1) If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then I am beyond flattered. ;) Hey Roger, do I get royalties on the name?...or at least a shout out for the inspiration in Kitplanes magazine?

2) With 27.5" tires, 27gal of remaining fuel, and only 4,100DA the original "Super Cruzer" would do 110kts TAS. At 10,000DA it was closer to 122kts. With cruzer tires is would have been closer to 135kts on 7.5gph.

I'd argue the right combo the plane can be both reasonably fast, long haul, and off airport capable.

I'm curious why they didn't change the design to a single wing strut, like the regular Cruzer.

I was wondering the same.

Mine did. And single piece 25 gal tanks per side. Just sayin'. :D
