I called Dynon and UL Power and neither one can help me. I am trying to electrically connect the fuel flow and RPM from the UL power ECU to the Dynon Engine Monitoring System. Is there anyone that may have done this could help me out. The UL Power ECU has two leads that are labeled as (Fuel consumption -Injector pulse) and the other as (Fuel consumption -Pulse/liter) and then the Dynon has two pins labeled as fuel flow and the other as fuel flow power ???? As far as the RPM is concerned, I assume (we all know about assumptions, right!) that the single lead from the ECU labeled RPM (2 pulse /rev 0-12V) would connect to pin 32 or33 on the EMS. Ron, do you have the newer ECU (red) or the old style (black). I may be able to help, but we've had a power outage and still do, so bear with me if you don't hear from me in a timely manner. I've got to review my notes. I have a dual ECU (old style) connected and working with the Dynon EMS, and though it took a bit to figure out, it finally made sense. The ULPower schematics on their website along with the Dynon documentation is rather good, though a bit tedious to wade thru at times.
Thanks for your help David. I just received this engine from Belgium less than a month ago, the ECU is neither red or black, it's the color of metal and is completely different. The wiring harnesses conform to the diagram shown as the new ECU(red) in the ULPower information. When I bought my complete Dynon system this past summer, they included two red cubes (flow sensors) and that is what I had planned on using. At the time I didn't realize that the ULPower ECU provided fuel consumption, so if I can get that to work that is the way I would like to go.
Ron, for the RPM, I agree pin 32 or 33. The Dynon EMS inputs to calculate fuel consumption I had to use (older ECU and required two Red Cube fuel flow transducers for fuel flow in and fuel flow out) were: P15 for 12V power to the cubes, P14 for fuel flow into my engine, P19 for fuel flow out, and then any of the EMS grounding pins for the fuel flow transducers P 3,1316,17,30. So two pins were used for fuel flow in (each transducer) and "fuel power" is just an aux 12V source from the EMS. The Dynon software automatically does the math for flow in differential between both cubes resulting in "fuel consumption" value. Not that any of that helps in your desired goal...but a bit of background for you if you decide to use the red cubes. Looking at the UL schematics for the new ECU it seems that the white/red wire on the ECU loom outputs fuel consumption as pulses/liter. Maybe that could go directly to P14 and then calibrated to reflect proper consumption thru the software settings. The pulse output seems a lot lower than that of a red cube (68K/gal) for similar flow, but it may be accurate enough. I would also give the UL NA rep Ray Lawrence a call if you haven't yet. (478) 232-9560 he may have a solution for you!
David, I think I will connect things, both RPM and fuel consumption, as you suggested and see what I get. For me, fuel consumption is not a very important figure, so if it doesn't work, I won't worry about it to much. It will probably be a while before I find out though as I'm not ready to throw the switch just yet. I'll call Ray and see what he suggest. Thanks
