Viking 180 Turbo for the Zenith Super Duty

The Viking 180 Turbo has been on display next to the Super Duty prototype all week at the Sebring air show.  Viking has the first customer built aircraft kit and will fly the completed aircraft to the Sun N Fun show in 2 months.  This will be a testament to how quickly the Super Duty can be built and the ease of the Viking engine installation

Can't fly an aircraft with just the tail completed so a lot of work still remain between now and April

The good news is that Viking recieved one of many Super Duty rudders built at the Zenith workshop here at the Sebring show.  This one was built by AvWeb reporter Paul Bertorelli and show perfect craftmanship.

This is showing a colaboration between Viking and DUC propellers.  The Super Duty will use this 75" propeller but with a carbon fiber hub, in addition to the already carbon fiber blades.  The pictured propeller use an aluminum hub.

Performance is expected to be better than with the prototype 205 hp engine

Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Viking 180 Super Duty now ready for wing kit

You are looking at the standard rear seat for the Super Duty. It has 3 seats

Thank you.  I also think this will be the Fun plane many will want.

Viking now have reservations to fly from Florida to the Valdez Alaska STOL competition in May.  This will be a long flight in a Super Duty.   After this, if anyone ask if a Honda engine works in an aircraft after such a long round trip flight, feel free to punch them in the nose as a wake-up call.

We are not planning to win the competition.  Just to participate.

Samantha and Alissa, now working the office for Viking are working with the Valdez team to get us into the appropriate category.

The red will be supported by a dead flat black by next weekend.

It is not easy to build a production prototype air frame.  We consider our-self lucky to have a few similar planes behind us.

We can usually build a Zenith aircraft in 30 days so we might not be a good measure for what "normal" time is supposed to be.  For our builds it usually include a new firewall package design and installation, etc.  We then test everything for one year.

(The 180 HP engine package already went through this testing in our CruZer model last year)
