Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Hello all. I recently purchased a 750 STOL with a 110hp Viking engine. Was wondering if folks could chime in and offer some comments.
The former owner was pretty firm about having the gearbox temp at least to 160 degrees, prior to launching. Looks like the guidelines say the same. I have some questions into Jan and Alissa, but they havent answered yet. But I sit at the end of the runway for at least 15 mins, waiting for the temp to get to 155 (running at 3000rpm). Is this normal? Is there any way to get to this temp without consuming so much fuel? Seems like I'm using more fuel just waiting for this rise in temps. I also noticed that after a normal flight, even returning to the skies a short time later also requires maybe 10 mins at high idle, to get the gearbox to 160.
Comments and suggestions welcomed. Sounds like it needs a Tanis in the summer! Thanks!
