water drains for cylindrical .62 gallon header tanks

I have the viking 130 engine mounted on my cruzer and am starting to plan the fuel system. I bought the .62 gallon cylindrical header tanks from Viking and have been wondering how to  add drains for draining any water that might accumulate in the fuel system. It looks like the larger header tanks have room for a drain but not the small header tanks. Does anyone on this forum have this setup with the .62 gallon cylindrical header tanks? Would adding drains in addition to wing tank drains be overkill?

Thanks,

John

I don't think it would be an overkill for the same reason most aircraft have wing tank drains and gascolators.  Condensation on the sides or roof of wing tank will eventually mix with fuel as it sloshes around.  If there is room you might consider installing one high pressure gascolator on the discharge side of your header tanks.

Thanks Loren!

I have two small header tanks and looking at how to drain them; maybe use the pumps to drain them through a quick disconnect.

Did you install a high pressure gascolator? How did it work out?

I have dual .6 Gallon header tanks. I have sumps in my wings and I have never found a drop of water in my fuel. I get it at Costco and a local station. With the alcohol in the gas and the fuel pumps at the low point churning up any water and mixing it with the fuel it would take a very large accumulation of water in the tank for it to become a problem. With gravity fed tank with a carbureted engine on airplanes parked outside with AVGAS it is a much, much bigger issue.

Good to know. Thanks
