Jan,

I often get questions about why the rubber disc is cut, and I suspect other builders do as well.  Most question why anyone would cut up a disc that was not designed to be cut up.   Seems like a fair question and one that I cannot answer.

Can you share with us in more detail what lead you to do this?    Did you have any engineering done, and if so are you willing to share it?  Were there issues with the discs when they were whole?   Were there early problems that cased you to cut the discs in parts?

Thanks.

P.S.  Even though I have not installed the new HD Turbo gearbox, I am very impressed with the new design.

Jan,

Just a follow up to the last post.   I know you are real busy,  but I am hoping you can share answers to the questions about that I ask from the post, from Jan 27th about testing and if there were issues using the disc whole?

Thank you!!!

Charlie

Yes, it is cut for a reason.  Do not use it as a complete unit.  Just like the gears, the selection of bearings, the alloy used in the drive unit cases and every other part of the design is done for a reason, the same go for the damper units.

Only use Viking supplied and sectioned units made specifically for the 90, 110, 130 or 180 engine.  They are not the same.

Jan,

Thank you for the follow up.   I completely understand that you want to emphasize not to use the disc whole, and to purchase Viking supplied discs.   But if you did testing with the BMW disc whole vs cut, it would be beneficial to know the outcome of those tests.
