I think I'm probably capable, but at this stage I don't think I have the patience needed.I could happily do it if I could build fulltime, but thats not likely to happen anytime soon. Not sure what I'd build,I'm reasonably new to this flying thing, imported a trike from Brisbane a bit over a year ago, love it ,but decided I now want to try 3 axis, hence the 701. I love being able to land on the beach or a farm strip, riverbed or wherever,so I gyess It would have to be something capable of that again, maybe 750,kitfox ,avid ,something like that. Your economy is still ticking over pretty well isn;t it ?
Gidday Phill
Yer,finally got it up briefly last sunday, had to rebuild damage caused before I got it,undercarriage and nosewheel attachmants. Only got 20mins in ,but was all good. Weather permitting,we're off for the day this weekend.
Hows your project coming along ?
Hi Phill - CHTs during ground running seem to stabilise around 140 to 145 degrees C after about 10 to 15 minutes. At the moment the front cylinders are running just a tad hotter than the rear. Will need to remove a bit more aluminium from the inlet area to rectify this but waiting until it's flying before doing anything more. Will add a few photos when I get a spare minute.
Hi Phill,
Thanks for the welcome.
I am in Rosewood (outer brisbane suburb) though fingers crossed I will be moving to Maryborough before Christmas (Hence the delay in ordering the kit). I have not ordered the how to build DVDs yet as I wanted to get some input from you guys as to their worth. I have an engines/airframe background and I work with a lot of avionics people but no sheetmetal workers. Learning from someonelses' experience is always better than walking the minefield alone.
Good luck with the 601 build they are a fast plane :)
Hi Phill,
It is a bit late to call now but if it is ok I will give you a yell tomorrow. What time is best to call?

hey Phill just got internett connected just 90 klm from Melbourne no f## ing service had to go with big pond mobile next Gcant fly too f##ing wet pretty pissed off you might be able to tell new email paul.mary.@bigpond.com how do i pass it on to every one
G'Day Phill we found out we can keep our old email addressso we have 2 .its amaizaing what paying more money can do
very nice cooling system i might give it a try
I'll keep you posted on the CHTs etc once we get airborne. Still working through the final inspection and paper work here. No problems with temperatures during ground runnning and fast taxiing at this stage. I'm not expecting any cooling issues as there are a few local Jabiru engines set up with the cooling box arrangement and they have had no problems. One chap with a Fisher Dakota Hawk was at his wits end with cooling - threw the fibreglass ducts in the bin and went with conventional cooling box - problem solved!!
g;day phill
when are you doing your panel can't wait to see it ,how you have done everything else it should look awesome,by the way i stuffed up my email address just use the old one

There are a series of Cz drawings covering the composite U/C installation. It is not really a simple process to convert from the american U/C design. There are 0.063" 6061 frames to make up and install as well as 4130 steel supports and axel components. Wheels and brakes are also different. You could possibly adapt what you have. To do the mod the structure under the seats would need to be exposed and you would need the wings off and the fuselage upside down for access. If you want tro go ahead I could send detailed information to you.
Thanks Phil! I'm starting the rudder at the January 27-28 workshop. Then it will probably be early March before get too far into it - matters of money and garage space. But I'll probably put lots of pics and such on the web.
Yes, it is absolutely my intention to make aileron pushrods for my airplane when I get to that stage of the build. I believe the 1 1/4" (?) dia. tube being used is very much oversized and is being used because that's what Van's uses. I have an old engine lathe at my disposal so I'll probable get some thick wall 3/4, 7/8 or 1 inch tube and make my own rod ends once the wings are on the fuse. Until then, I'm 'building by the book'.
I'm still trying to sort out my workshop, I requested a quote from performance metals for the material to make the rudder assembly. They mentioned that they dont have any 6061 T6 0.016" for the rudder skin and dont think they will either. did you get your material through them?
Thanks for the comments. I just found out I have a second cousin who is a minister at St. Johns Lutheran Church in MO. Coincidence? Lol I am planning to visit mexico this summer. I will deffinatly be spending time at Zenith.
Fun Tax, eh...? Don't say that too loud or the politicians might get some ideas. We've had to deal with "Sin Taxes" on things like liquor and cigarettes. I guess that means fun=sin, at least to the politicians... :-)
BTW, I ordered the same secondary canopy safety that you installed. I like how you did yours.
I'm not building the 601. I applied for mebership as i was considering that model, but have decided to go down the STOL route and ordered the rudder starter kit from Zenithair Australia. My reasons? Have a look at some of the amazing photographs in www.stolspeed.com website of the Australian outback. I am neutral about the Politics though.
Thanks for the info. I also have 2 part Epoxy paint for my plane. I did paint cars years ago and I wondered if the HVLP guns would be less messy with the overspray and all.
BTW, the epoxy primer/paint stuff is GREAT. Covers very well, dries fast, does not drip BUT its smell stays with you FOREVER! Next time is MASK time even if just for mixing the paint.
Thanks again for the info and keep the pictures coming.
I haven't had my plane up for a few months now as my airstrip has been too wet. With the weather finally warming up should be able to get airborne very soon. Looking forward to show Yu around the Northeast of Victoria and further afield.
Loctite 577 is used for stainless steel applications, about the gell around the thread could be bit of fuel seepage. Loctite requires about 24Hr to fully cure, you could have used pipe sealant (loctite 567 ) I will send you some info net few days.
G'Day phill we got back home safely had a few worries but good now .see you have had it running ,thats good ,not sure about those props we just hop in and fly, wood is good, been realy shit weather here ,cold wet and miserable, last wednesday flew to elmore field days1.5 there 15 kn head wind 85 kn is aslow trip ,10kn head wind coming home i thought the gods were against me
I purchased a partially completed CH650B kit, so trying to sort out where the last guy left off at the moment. Hopefully some real progress soon, cheers Tim
Hi Phil, I am building zenair 1450 amphib floats, to fit to Just Highlander, which is also still under construction. Last project was rv7 finished 18 months ago. Just can't help myself!!
Phil, Thanks for the cutter recommendation. Just curious what chuck size it requires, my biggest problem seems to be finding something that will fit into a 3/8" drill, everything seems to be 1/2".
Phill, the seat bottom modification will be easier to upholster, but I'm sure my seats will not match yours in style. I've started working on version 2, but will be satisfied with comfort.
thanks for the offer phil, one of the reasons i am building is i cant afford to buy a completed aircraft. i also need a challenging project to keep me sane for the next few years. life has taught me lately i need to take some time out for my minds health. cheers mate. rob
