Suggested Modification for Viking 130 Fuel System Restrictor Orifice Installation

At Viking's recommendation, we installed the restrictor orifice between our header tank and the outlet side of the low pressure fuel pumps.  Background.  This orifice is to prevent over pressure of the low pressure fuel system, by chance the high pressure fuel pump leaks back after shutdown.  One modification we made to the orifice installation, is that we also installed a check valve between the restrictor orifice and header tank.  This check valve allows us to perform maintenance on our…See More

EarthX Battery

Our Zenith 750 STOL is stored outside all winter (in Anchorage), and to our surprise we discovered one of our EarthX 680c batteries had been left on.  After bringing the battery home, and letting it warm up overnight, the battery was 7.3V. That’s a very deep discharge for any battery, and we expected it to be shot.I spoke with Kathy, at EarthX, to see if she would drop ship us a new battery? She would of course, but recommended we first see if it is salvageable by using our Optimate lithium…See More

Any Zenith's Flying with the Aeromomentum

Last May I was asked by many attendees of the Great Alaskan Aviation Gathering “what other engines are available for the Zenith 750?”  At the time I named many different engines that are or may be available, including Aeromomentum.  Since then the only Zenith I’ve seen or heard about flying is a 701 owned by the owner of Aeromomentum.  Are there any other Zenith flying with an Aeromomentum? See More

Viking 130 Cowl Modifications

We experimented with our cowl last summer to get better cooling during extended climbs.  As many know, the summer days in south central and interior Alaska does get hot from time to time.  The engine has always run great, and with no cowl at all the coolant temperatures stayed below 195ºf during extended climbs.  Unfortunately, with the cowl we could hardly climb more than 800ft at a time without the temperatures reaching 220ºf.  At which time we level off to cool down.  We opted not to use a…See More

The cowling I received from them was probably the worst quality piece of work I've ever seen. $1,000 in the trash. Hopefully, they have found someone since who knows how to lay up fiberglass.
