I am the cable guy/ I purchased this bird to rebuild her with
my daughter as a project to get kid into airplanes and aviation.
kids will put down the video games just to see an airplane, they think there out of reach. It's here, touch it , work on it, smile...
To see my daughter's face lite up when she goes for a ride
is awesome. She wants to share that with other kids...
The plane is hurt, but We think it can be done.

I have seen the same type of damage to a CH801 with Watler Lomb 235 hp straight six cylinder engine. The owner removed the leading edge slats and installed VG's instead. Aircraft is at Can-Zac now. Buy a set of plans from Zenith so your rebuild will recieve factory support and parts. With plans you also get technical builder support. The CH801 is a bear to build....tougher to rebuild. The Lycombing 0-360 is the ideal engine for the CH801.

Tom,
Congrats on starting the project, good luck on salvaging! I saw your comment about 'hard copy plans', none are available for the 801. The builder's books I received with the kit include quite a few drawings (blueprints), but key dimensions are purposefully omitted to prevent copycats.

Dear Tom, Congratulations on taking on the restoration, the 801 is and can be a great airplane, especially for kids to work on. I was President of the Wisconsin Aviation Academy when I started working on my 801, the cadets had the opportunity to learn a lot about aerodynamics and aircraft construction, measuring in millimeters, drilling and clecoing parts together and seeing the result. Many have since graduated and gone on to bigger and better things in aviation, but it wa great to have had a part in their lives. I know you will enjoy the trip. You can find a lot of good info and help from those who have already finished thier airplane.
