Oil Plug Magnet

Started this discussion. Last reply by David J. Beaulieu Oct 15, 2020. 4 Replies

While changing oil this weekend, I was looking at the magnet on the end of the plug for contamination. I noticed it was a little off center so I twisted it a little and it fell off. I don't know how…Continue

I don't understand why the exhaust on my 350is continues to be black and sooty. Was like that when I uncrated it and hasn't improved after 10 hours of operation.Continue

UL Fuel Pumps

UL 350is Fuel Requirements

I found a service station in our area selling 110 R+M/2 racing fuel. It is 13 bucks/gal. What are UL engine owners finding that works in this engine? I know of using an additive to combat the lead in…Continue

Oil Plug Magnet

While changing oil this weekend, I was looking at the magnet on the end of the plug for contamination. I noticed it was a little off center so I twisted it a little and it fell off. I don't know how it is supposed to attach to the end of the plug. It isn't swaged on or pressed on so I will leave it off for now until I know more.See More

UL Fuel Pumps

Yesterday I decided to run the fuel pumps to cycle some fuel through the engine. Both pumps bogged down and produced no pressure. After removing the pumps and much dinking around, I found both check valve poppets at the discharge end of the pumps were stuck shut and not allowing fuel flow. I swished them around in some Berryman's and gently pushed them open. The pumps seem to function ok now but I certainly didn't need this and it doesn't bolster my confidence in these units. Fuel is autogas…See More

Thanks, Tom.  We have taxied the high school plane and are just waiting on FSDO to set up inspection so we can fly it.

Stop by our hangar at SZT some time.

We would like to see and hear about your project.

Yes, the 601HD can be interesting to land.  Glad it is the HD as in heavy duty-- as I have had some carrier landings.  I would like to see your project.  We had one CH701 at KSFF and I had a chance to fly that plane prior to buying the Zodiac.  I use Experimental 16BZ call sign as when I use Zodiac, they think Kodiak!  I have about 20 or so hours on the plane and we are becoming friends!

I didn't powder coat anything, just primer and paint.  I can't think of any reason you shouldn't powder coat the steal components if you wish.  Yes, you should protect the steel parts.  My torque tubes and other "unseen" steel components only have primer on them.

Congratulations! Hope to see some updates on you progress through the build. I'll be starting the tail kit when it arrives. I think the fusealage kit will be the next section I order. Was it a long wait for the fusealage?
