I have a metal shop that has the size in stock, and I can machine, and bend it myself. If they get 69.00 for the aluminum, I figure I can mess up 8 times before I would have spent more than on the gear. It seems like a no brainer to me, but maybe Im missing something. I like your built doors, very cool and much stronger than factory. Thanks for the reply
I don’t have easy access to the press so I can’t take measurements. I made the foot (the part on the hydraulic
cylinder) from a piece of 6 inch pipe and welded a bushing to fit the cylinder. The two rollers are solid aluminum
about 4 inches in diameter and drilled a hole through them to pass a pin. That red frame is part of a jig made to bend round pipe. The spacing was about 1.5 feet between the rollers. It is a 40 ton press. I found a place that water-jet ripped that piece of aluminum to the correct width. Rounded the edges of the gear before I bent it. If you are trying to save money I would not go this route.
Hey Curt. I have the same iron worker at my work. Do you remember what the center to center was on the rollers? Any tips you could lend? Plane looks nice.
