This is regular (we call it "construction") 3/4 plywood panel, all I did was to pick up the cleanest one I could find in the bundle. I think pine could do it for the thin parts, as you go up in thickness it's better to have something stronger, for example I used oak (very expensive!) for the main wing nose ribs only. In the picture the tip rib top mold is in oak.
