Returning from OSH 2008; Glacier National Park MT
Taken at 11,400 feet MSL. What you can’t see in this picture is the 50 knot head wind screaming across the jagged peaks below and the resulting extreme turbulence at lower altitudes. It was necessary to remain just below the clouds to avoid the turbulence which kicked the plane every-which-way like flying in a washing machine. The high throttle setting needed to fight the headwind resulted in uncomfortably high air speed for conditions. For 45 minutes I left my hand on the throttle, ready to cut power and airspeed. Best idea? Don’t fly in these conditions, especially in a less durable airplane. Steve
