Sorry for not answering earlier, I don't come on here enough. I just use my hands with cotton gloves on for getting the vinyl to lay flat around the rivits. Gently work the air bubbles towards each rivit until it's almost flat around each one. Then apply a little heat and generally it will conform right up against the rivit. Be patient, don't apply too much heat (especially if you're working with 3M 1080, it's a little delicate) and you won't have to poke any holes.
I've ordered some carbon fiber vinyl for my panel. How did you find it to work over the rivets? Does it "mold" pretty well around them?
It is carbon fibre vinyl wrap. This is just a practice piece which is now removed. I have since learned how to deal with the rivits (combination of heat and technique) so the vinyl lays flat.
Holy cow, I wouldn't have the patience to do that! LOL Is that carbon fiber on the front skin of the rudder?
