I had a stainless steel whip welded into a 3/8 - 24 hex bolt which fit a small antenna feed through mount.
UPDATE: Since I am using a Yaesu 750 handheld as a primary comm and nav radio, I am now using the Yaesu rubber duckie whip antenna which is multi-functional-it provides communication and nav for VOR, ILS including glide slope, and GPS services. The rubber duckie is mounted on the top of the fuselage.
