This is a freshwater pond about 1 Km long next to the Atlantic Ocean in Lower West Pubnico ,NS. I have my hangar on this pond called Grand Etang, only 0.5 km behind my house.

Brad, your photos are so beautiful. We had little Cape Islander built at Church Point, NS. Great scallops! Maybe fly there some day.

What a great fresh water harbour for float plane operations.

Joe the problem with the Searay is its extremely high drag. Aerodynamically it is very dirty.. if the engine quits it sinks faster than the CH701. High centre line thrust causes pitch changes with engine power changes. IMHO

The CH701 is a very capable STOL float plane.

Hi Joseph,

The 701 is a great performer on floats. I have been flying it for almost 14 years and have about 960 hrs on it, all on floats! It gets a little sluggish when you load it to the max but light it's a totally different plane.

Brad

You have been posting some awesome photos.  You are certainly a model for the benifits of building and flying your own plane.  Gives one the incentive to dive in and get to work.  Very nice.  What do you think of the 701 on floats?  Are they a good match?  I have read some reports of the SeaRay needing more horsepower that the 100 horse 912 can deliver.  Here you are having a blast with 80 horses.
