STOL CH 801 on Wheel Skis in northern Canada

Richard & Patty Lauzon's STOL CH 801 with Lycoming IO-360 engine. Richard operates Ten Mile Lodge in northern Quebec (90 km from a paved/plowed road) www.tenmilelodge.com The hydraulic retractable Wheel-Skis are built by Pierre Girard (who also builds floats) www.aviationpg.com. Richard & Patty live year around at Ten Mile Lodge. Every week this CH 801 is the grocery, milk & mail getter from Pembroke, Ontario, where Richard keeps a truck at the airport. These are awesome skis and Pierre's attention to detail shows in his craftsmanship. It takes a special pair of individuals to live so far off the beaten path with 6 feet of snow and -25C (-13 deg. F.) temperatures in the winter and blackfies, deer flies, horse flies...Moose...Bear...Wolves as neighbors in the summer. The best pickeral (walleye) fishing I have ever experienced in my life. In another life Richard used to build log homes.

I had to put on long underwear to look at this picture!!  Looks like a fun place to visit, but I'll wait for summer.  The skis look like they are very well done (I looked at the website).

Bill... the snow is waist deep at Ten Mile Lodge presently. Todays take off was in fresh snow, on thin lake ice, heavy slush and -32C temps. It is performing awesome in very harse winter conditions.

How well does it work in deep snow?  I have never put mine on skis because Ihave been concerned about getting the nose wheel stuck and tear up the prop.

"It's a Great Life" you've got the best of it.

I did some transition in a 750 at Cobden and used Pembroke for practice with Bob McDonld.

Thanks for the good reminder!
