Larry you guys in the States have no idea how lucky you are to be able to source Corvair core engines like that. The only ones in South Africa are in restored Corvairs. When I have the capitol to start looking for a core I'm hoping to work through someone on the forum here that will be prepared to help me out.

Your building is light years ahead of mine & looking very good. Keep it up

Yeah Dave, my budget is in about the same as yours. Mine can't keep up with my progress either. I did locate 2 Corvair core engines and paid $300 for both together. I was able to send out one of the crankshafts to Moldex for rebuilding so that part is done. I just wished I had enough working capital to buy what I need from WW. I'd written him in an email and asked what I could expect for leadtimes. Of course, he has never written me back. I am hopeful to at least be able to go to CC #15 in Fitchburg at Falcon's. I don't think we will be able to go to Oshkosh though. We are hoping for next year on that. Glad you got her up on her wheels again and your making great progress! Keep up the great work!

Good job Larry! Now you can sit in it and make airplane noises. Now is a good time to consider cutting the baggage deck in half. I cut it into front and rear halves and substituted a wide "U" channel for the middle "L" to tie the two halves together. This made the baggage deck much easier to get in and out during fitting. It also allows you to rivet the rear half in and leave the front half out to make access to the flap motor, torque tubes, etc. easier. Then you can rivet in the front half when you are ready. Just a thought. It worked for me.

Thanks Larry! Yep, it felt great to move it off the saw horses onto the gear. Even more motivating now to hang my Corvair conversion on the firewall. If only the building budget could keep pace with the project...

Congrats Dave. It sure looks great sitting there! I bet that felt good to push it out of the garage for the first time. I'm right behind you and hopefully I'll be pushing mine into the sunshine soon too within the next month or so. Keep building! :)
