These teflon blocks significantly reduce the strut's friction. With the bungee attached, strut almost returns to center after releasing at full deflection.

I still am not happy with the friction in the rest of the yaw system, but am not sure what else to do.

Bill,

I did not create drawings for these blocks, but they are simple to make.

I began by removing 1/8" from the extrusion's upper surface, then held a slab of teflon in the inside angle of the extrusion, and marked with an ultra-fine sharpie. Then mill away 3/16" of material right up to the line creating the overhang. Drill a couple of attach holes (make sure these clear the strut). Drill relief on the bottom to match the existing extrusion attach bolts. Attach each one to a scrap angle for holding, and mill the upper surface to 1/8"above the line you drew earlier. Clamp them both together, and sand upper surface with a flapper wheel until both are identical.

Voila.

My dual stick sketches are posted.

Steven,

Great idea.

I would be interested in looking closer at your drawings for both this friction reduction and your dual sticks, If you wouldn't mind.

If so please email them to me at Bill@LightSportAircrafters.com

Congratulations on figuring out a fix to this. I never considered it much of a problem but I know that it troubles many builders. Seems like this is a reasonably simple way to relieve that friction.

Keep up the good work.

Bill

AN bolts hold the lower Nylon per the prints. The Teflons are counterbored to accommodate the bolt heads and washers.

Looks good. How are you holding the lower Nylon 6-6 bearing to the extrusion beneath the bearing surface?
