Here are three of five (50 lbs each) of my sandbag passengers waiting for the icy taxiways to clear. Then it will be on to max gross weight flight testing.

"Sand Bags" I've seen it done with bags of Softener Salt. I had a friend who was doing climb testing at max. gross with his Murphy Elite on amphibian floats. He was walking around the airport looking for something around 210 lbs. It was a lovely day, calm winds and blue skies. I solved his problem by jumping in and going flying.
Earning the name "Ballast Bob" around the airport.
