Mack -

I called the factory and talked to Caleb.  The hopefully really good news is, it's almost vertical, about 6" above the longeron on the pilot side, and almost right at where the cut is made between the 2 hoops.  The crack propagated off of a rivet hole when I was trying to cleco the canopy to the rear tube.  My bubble is "bowed out" on the sides a bit.  I had it pretty much a perfect fit from the front all the way to the hoops, but going up the hoops off of the longeron it was bowing out, and it also bows out a lot the further back I get toward the rear baggage bulkhead.

Caleb recommended that I try to seal the crack with Weld-On #3 solvent, and then use a heat gun to carefully try and "persuede" the plastic to bend in and match the tubes, and also to try and heat-form it in the back where it is bowing out.  It looks like the weatherstrip piece of aluminum that gets riveted to the forward hoop will completely cover the crack.  I'm crossing my fingers... with shipping, a replacement would be $835.  At least I can try to save it before I spend money I don't have.

what is the location of the crack? I had the same problem on my 601 and was able to hide the crack.

Brian, nice looking Corvair installation! Bet you can't wait to fire it up again soon. Regards, Dave.
