FYI for left coast pilots.... Check out First Light Aviation Group (Rick Lindstrom) in Livermore, CA in the east side of the SF Bay Area.  Rick is a great guy that is very knowledgeable with both Zodiacs and Grummans.  I fell in love with the entire line of Grummans in the 70's, and Rick and others said that the Zodiac was the best "match" in a homebuilt, and I have to agree.  Now if I could just figure how to incorporate the sliding canopy, I'll feel that much more at home and safer.

Phil,

When I flew in the ZAC 601XL with Roger a couple of weeks ago. I stated that the 601 XL handles just like my Grumman AA1B. When we landed a couple was standing near by and stated the same thing. I put my AA1B picture on my site so I can tell others that it handles just like the pictured aircraft.

I don't know any AA1A/B/C pilots in North Carolina but if you get close to Little Rock Arkansas I'll be more than happy to take you for a flight.

I just picked up the tail section to my Zodiac 650 and should be able to pick up the rest of the kit 31 July. I really like the Grumman AA1B but I wanted to make a few changes. I wanted a step to get on the wing; the AA1B is a 30" step from the floor up on the wing. I wanted sick controls; the control wheel becomes a knee knocker for the passenagers in the pattern. I wanted more useful weight; 500 lbs is all the AA1B will give me. I wanted more fuel; the AA1B 22 gal useful. (the only time I have to much fuel is when I'm on fire). The AA1B 0-235 C2C burns about 6.0 GPH which is ok but I want better. The fact that I have a Continental 0-200 with zero time in my Hangar didn't help matters.

So I think the Zodiac 650 is everything I wanted in a Grumman AA1B.

Mark:
Love the plane and good luck. I am involved in a 601 hds project that is nearing completion and have been told it handles similar to a Grumman AA1A. I am trying to get dual time in a AA1A. Do you know of any fellow Grumman owners who provide such training? I am located in NC but will travel. thanks phill
