I am using a Yaesu 750 handheld for my primary communication. It also has VOR, ILS, and GPS navigation functions. Antenna connection is attached to small diameter coax to the antenna mounted on top of fuselage. This installation provides in one unit and a single antenna - comm, VOR, ILS, and GPS. And the handheld can easily be "unclipped" from its mount for portable use.

Perhaps I didn't post that picture. I see if I can find it and I'll upload it.
Yes I am. There is another pix of the 12 VDC module that is mounted behind the panel. I disassembled the module, removed the cigarette plug and attached the hot lead to a CB and ground to my "ground tree" . The end that plugs into the Yaesu is available behind the HT through the instrument panel so I can remove it easily for portable work. Bought an extra ducky antenna also for portable use. I will wire the headset adapter into the aircraft plug-ins above the pilot and pax seats. A transmit key line will be added and run to the yoke.
Are you providing a power supply to it ?
