Thomas, I agree, the preheaters are a big advantage for the health of the engine. I use an old sleeping bag as a cowl cover and have a telephone on / off switch for the Tannis heater ( came with the 912) ...it works well.
Conrad, I keep a Rieffel (spelling?)heater on the engine 100% of the time in this winter weather and the oil is kept at about 80f and I also cover the cowl with a quilt which keeps the interior cowl area warm. I have easy starts, Rotax,912s, and no moisture problems since the air is very dry in the winter. This winter it has been extremely cold so it takes the pressure off the battery at start up.
Moisture in oil??? Fly more often and cover part of oil cooler to get oil up to 200 - 215 degrees.
Looks like to low oil temp ...
