I also plan to use this method to set my solid rivets. My idea was to use a visual indicator for the depth to get consistent sets. Like a piece of tape on the ram or a sharpie line. It looks like he has some tape or something at the top of the ram to indicate the depth. I paid $40 + shipping for my arbor press, but I found an economy set of hand rivet squeezers for $80. Have to buy the rivet dies either way. I'll use the arbor press for other things, but now I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and get the squeezers. On a tight budget, so I'll probably try the arbor press first.
Did the arbor press work well to set the solid rivets? Did you incorporate some kind of stop to achieve consistently set rivets?
