Zenith STOL: Doesn't need much runway
This strip is 7400' MSL. The density altitude today was 10,300, and the 701 used less than half the "runway" you see behind the plane to take off.
Location: East Tavaputs plateau, eastern Utah

I paced it off and the clear area is around 900'. I'd estimate I was airborne in about half that.
