I think David claims it can be done for less that $100. Maybe because he made his out of steel and steel is way cheaper than alum? Or maybe he got a deal. And and deal on piano hinge. As long as it doesn't flex too much... I guess you are A-OK. I think I will do steel and paint it with an epoxy paint or that Appliance Paint they sell at HomeDepot/Lowes always seems to dry really hard/durable. Looks great though! You have a real life Airplane "Manufactory" now! :-)
Aluminum from the scrap place but still cost me over $200. The brake is 8ft long using 3x3 angle 0.250 thick. I used (20) regular hinges instead of the piano hinge in an attempt to make it stronger. I knew the hinges would be a lot of drilling so I opted for the aluminum so it would be a bit easier and I could router a 1/8 radius on the edge. I've only done a couple test pieces but it seems to work well. I better end up scratch building an entire aircraft or two in the future or this was not really a needed/justifiable expense!
Nice! Is that all steel or alum? What was the total cost$$$ David Clay design right?
