This plane crashed due to an engine failier,EA-81 subaru,,vacuum leak at carb...no injuries,,both pilot and passenger climbed out and down the trees that it landed in ,,probably a lot due to the slow stall speed.
This plane was built before the 7F5-3 Z angle was updated to a much stronger piece..when the wings hit the trees ,,it looks like the old lighter part buckeled ,,,the only week link in the cabin area,,with the later reienforced part there would have been much less damage .This is a testiment to the excellent design and strength of the 701,,the cabin area remained relatively intact ,resulting in no injuries ..i will use this plane for a good parts source ,as i am plans building my own 701SP model...i am not sure what engine i will be using yet,as i sold the subaru.

Did this plane crash as a result of the buckled part? What happened?

In this photo you can see where 7F5-3 buckled ...This had the old single . Z angle not the updated with the reinforcement ...
