Glenn, AOPA simply states "terrain" as the biggest factor in making SEZ one of the most challenging airports. I agree the surrounding terrain can be intimidating and high winds can make for some serious downdrafts and squirrelly approaches. Maybe I've just been lucky. :)

Glenn, SEZ has been my usual fuel stop at Thanksgiving nearly every year when I visit my sister and her family in Albuquerque for the past twenty years. The fact that it's on top of a mesa makes the perspective a bit unusual, but the runway is just shy of a mile long. Elevation is 4830 ft. I've never had any apprehensions about stopping there. Density altitude was 5500 feet last weekend and I was climbing at 400 fpm (flying solo with just a small duffel for baggage).
