With pad on top of lid it should serve as an arm rest too!

Thanks Joe...exactly what I want to do!! Now I know what to look for at the auto junk yard. I was concerned about making it too tall as it could possibly impede egress if I had to get out of the cabin via the right side door. Figured I can customize the thickness of the arm rest padding to fit my "elbow height" when seated in the flying position. Hope the flying is still good up your way with that great flying machine of yours! Cheers - Dave
Hi Dave,
That is pretty much what I did. Make sure you make it tall enough that your elbow can rest on it. That really makes for some comfortable flying. I really like having the storage that is readily accessible in flight. Mine is usually crammed with "stuff".
For the armrest pad, I was able to find a console pad (cover) that had the right length, width and colour out of an older Chev Cavalier at the auto wreckers.
I took a quick look for a photo but could only up with this on short notice (I have too many photos with little organization...)
