See anything wrong with this picture?? The day I flew and saw the rainbows I landed and got fuel. Shortly after takeoff I looked over and saw this. I think the rainbow was a sign. What a sick feeling. I stumbled across this picture in another file. This resulted from overpressurizing the sending unit when I had the filter between the pump and cooler. I wanted to see how high it would get when cold ( 60 degrees) and it pegged the needle all the way around almost 330 degrees, well past 100. This showed up later as a ruptured diaphram in the sender and this episode is the result.

Gauges, when working propperly, may give warning of an emergency in progress, if monitored closely. Too many gauges may cause too many concerns. When a needle goes zero, I look and wait for second indication. But whenever it climbs up from green, I recite my emergency shut-down and landing, sweating a bit. When it climbs to high yellow or above, I sweat a lot more, with a short prayer. :^)

I had beat the stuffing out of the panel by the time I took this picture. Thankfully I was over Kanawha River Valley when this happened and there are huge river bottoms to land in. One of the few places around home where the ground is flat !

It's time to start knocking on the gauge and looking for a place to land:)

Yes the sender had failed. I began feeling better as time went on because I knew there was no way the engine would have stayed together without oil as long as it had. It is funny how your mind works, after dealing with the emergency I realized I had a camera in the seat so I took this picture, just in case. I had forgotten about it until clearing off unwanted pics and this is how I found it. Its fuzzy because i was shaking so hard!!!
