Based on the ski marks on the snow you could tell it was not a hare, although he also leaves kind of a similar pattern: two in the middle, one on both sides:) The trace ends 60 meters from the start..

Why bother to plow the snow. Just put them on and fly :)

The 701 would be a killer in a taildragger configuration, I bet. It would give you the instant high AoA with a more robust undercarriage.

Take off is not an issue. As soon as you get the nose ski up it'll take off almost immediately. The landing, however, may become an issue as you can not keep the nose up long after touch down and the wing loses its lift when the nose comes down putting more weight on the nose ski. In hard snow conditions the landing roll is pain as the plane just keeps on going and going and the rough surface is hammering the plane.. As a taildragger the high AoA would provide more lift and also break down your speed during the landing roll.

I have the new bottoms (no wheel holes) for the skis. Too busy snow blowing out the hangar to get to changining the skis. I'm going to look at a 2 1/2" insert for the nose ski like your CH701. Bob Jones reports a significant increase in deep snow STOL performance raising the nose slightly.

It was just below freezing, maybe -2..3C or so. It has been exceptionally mild winter. Only a few days around the Christmas when it dropped down to -30C. For the weekend the forecast says it's going to be -10...-15C and quite clear. Ski flying should be good!

How about your ski project - converting those wheel skis to straight, if I recall correctly?
